Grant helps with structural analysis of Pierce’s Hall

from the East Putney Community Club

Thanks to a $1,650 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Putney Historical Society and East Putney Community Club will have the assistance of architect Jeremy Coleman and structural engineer Robert Leet in the renovation of Pierce’s Hall in East Putney.

“With these start-up dollars, Putney joins hundreds of other communities across the country actively ensuring that America’s architectural and cultural heritage is preserved,” said Wendy Nicholas, Director of the Northeast Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, upon announcing their award.

A grant of $500 from the Preservation Trust of Vermont, as well as donations from private individuals, helped match the NTHP grant and complete fund raising for consulting services. Fund raising for construction costs continues.

“We are delighted to have all the funds we need to cover professional services for Phase I of the Hall’s renovation,” said Ann Kerrey, an East Putney Community Club member who is helping raise funds. “We are very pleased that Jeremy and Bob will be working with us.”

Abe Noe-Hays, also of the East Putney Community Club, said that [analyzing the hall’s structural needs] will help finalize construction costs.  “That information  will help us with fund raising and move us that much closer to a construction start.”

Mr. Coleman, principal of J Coleman+ Company Architects in Putney, holds an architectural degree from the Boston Architectural Center.  His recent projects include the Vernon Senior Housing Develpment, and the Ann Richard Wilder Renovations and BHA Assisted Living development in West Brattleboro.  He was the architect for the Latchis Theater renovation in Brattleboro.

Mr. Leet, the owner of Whetstone Engineering in Wendell, Massachusetts, is an experienced structural and civil engineer.

Fund raising to cover Pierce’s Hall  renovation costs continues.  Tax deductible donations can be made to: “The Putney Historical Society/Pierce’s Hall”, and mailed to: Abe Noe-Hays, 5 Phineas White Lane, #4, Putney, VT 05346.
