With only a short interruption the Putney General Store, operating since 1796, is the oldest operating general store in Vermont.
After two fires (2008 and 2009) and with the support of over 350 local donors, and the
support of many businesses, foundations and agencies the Putney General Store
was reconstructed by the Putney Historical Society. With the reopening of the store in 2011 and with the transformation of the former United Church of Putney into the Next Stage Performing Arts Center (also a Putney Historical Society project) the center of the village is once again intact and thriving.
With only a short interruption the Putney General Store is still the oldest operating general store in Vermont, since 1796. Learn more about today’s Putney General Store HERE!
