Stuart Strothman on Nov 15th 2011

The new sign went up today. Modeled on the S.L. Davis sign the store sported from the 30′s – 50′s, it shows the beautiful work of lifetime resident Will Parmalee. He also offered us these anagrams:

Moving ahead with performing arts center!

Stuart Strothman on Apr 17th 2011

The Putney Historical Society and Next Stage Arts held a well-attended meeting today at the former United Church, at which PHS members and Putney townspeople enthusiastically supported our plan to create a performing center there. (Later in the evening, Red Molly played bluegrass for a full theatre, arranged by Barry Stockwell of Twilight Music.)
Hurray!

PHS creating new home, and performing arts center

Stuart Strothman on Mar 19th 2011

On March 12, the PHS board voted unanimously to move ahead with both a new home for the historical society and a capable, accessible performing arts center at the former United Church of Putney. We are following recommendations of the recently completed feasibility study led by architect Chip Greenberg, available at: Church feasibility study [zip]. This is a very big decision, and we ask that PHS members come and give their feedback and approval on Sunday, April 17, at 1:30 pm at the church. We will be in the first floor, fully accessible areas.
We hope that PHS members and others will review the study and attend the meeting, and we are thrilled at the possibility of further establishing Putney as a center of arts and culture.
Won’t you join us, and lend your voice?

Feasibility Study for Performing Arts Center Complete

Stuart Strothman on Mar 1st 2011

In February, architect Chip Greenberg and members of the church advisory group completed a significant feasibility study, which essentially finds it feasible that we could create and maintain a capable, roughly 180-seat theatre in the former United Church of Putney, if we follow the recommendations set forth in the study findings. These include a new addition at the rear of the building, numerous building improvements to meet accessibility and fire codes, and raked seating and other changes to allow theatre production in the former sanctuary area, keeping it otherwise the same as much as possible (including the comfortable pews). We intend to send a newsletter explaining this issue in more detail in mid-March, and to put the complete feasibility study online for public consideration some weeks prior to a public meeting regarding the project, to be held on Sunday, April 17 at 1:30pm at the church.
